Each book has a different focus, but together they follow one continuous journey: from entering the Legion and being shaped by it, through responsibility and the judgement it demands, to the moment when he must decide what comes next.
A young man leaves home, joins the Legion, undergoes training and takes on his first missions. From Africa to Corsica, he is shaped by discipline, endurance, belonging and responsibility. The first book follows the path he chose and the price of every step along it.
The early lessons are behind him. Further training, operational missions in Iraq and Bosnia, and personal trials bring responsibility and consequences into sharp focus. He no longer needs to prove what he can do. The challenge now is judgement: finding the right balance in action, in command, in relationships and in what he expects of himself and others.
From Djibouti to French Guiana, an experienced soldier continues his service, flying aircraft and operating in the jungle and on the rivers. His command puts him in charge of a new amphibious operations cell. As its first leader, he starts from scratch and makes it operational. But with marriage, children and long absences, family begins to carry greater weight. The line is drawn between two loyalties, both real. His decision to leave comes after careful consideration. It is neither a rejection of what came before nor a defeat.
